Check out the stamps on this envelope that was sent from Charleston to Columbia in 1850! During this time, the postal service operated on two tiers. One stamp was worth 5 cents – the fee to send the letter from Charleston to Columbia. The next stamp, worth 2 cents, would get the letter from the post office to the recipient.
